Tuesday I blogged about my possible solution for the dreaded: "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems." Well, yesterday it started happening again. So, I did some more research.. When Outlook SAYS it's checking the file for errors... It never: Tells you if there were errors Fixes the mysterious errors So, here is another suggestion that seems to be working for me so far. I would do this in addition to the previous post. … [Read more...]
Outlook 2007 – Data File Problem
Since installing Office 2007, I've had a little trouble with Outlook. It seemed that Outlook or some process would not close the data file properly upon exit. Causing, this message nearly every time I started Outlook. Although it didn't appear to be causing any trouble, it was VERY aggravating!. I think I have found a solution. I added my PST file to the list of files and folders for Google Desktop to NOT Index. Since then, no error message. I think {HOPE} this did it. I'll … [Read more...]
Disable Vista’s UAC
I've been using Windows Vista Ultimate now on my main computer now since March 18, 2007. And, I have to tell you I'm very pleased with the results. I've had one blue screen in that time... AND it was completely my fault, I tried installing a program that was not intended to run under vista. It said it was not compatible.. but I had to try and was slapped down for my cheek! Other than that, Windows Vista is turning out to be a VERY GOOD operating system. My wife is using a MAC book pro with OS … [Read more...]
XP Error – Rthdcpl.exe – Illegal System DLL Relocation
It seems a recent Windows Security Update (KB928843 MS07-008) may cause an issue where the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start after it is installed. If you are getting the error below: Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should … [Read more...]

I noticed today that my windows vista computer had not received the updates that I knew had been released. My automatic updates are on however, now some of the windows "extras" were no longer showing either. I then noticed that the new "Windows Defender" Spyware program was showing an error that it's defenitions were also out of date. I tried to force an update on Windows Defender to receive error 0x80240029. Checking Microsoft's Site returned a possible solution that actually … [Read more...]

CA Arcserve version 9.0 and IE 7
I ran across an interesting error on a client's server this past week. Their nightly backup had begun crashing without any reported cause. The results of the last back-up simply said crashed. The logs did not show any clear reason why this would be happening. Other than they had several instances of "Bad media" reported in some of their last actual back-up attempts. Side note: Pay more attention to your back-ups people!! if you start seeing "Crashed" errors. Don't wait a month … [Read more...]
